Dr. Cosentino’s research focuses on developing digital image analysis tools to characterize native and engineered tissues and to perform a qualitative and quantitative histological assessment. These tools facilitate a mechanistic understanding of how the material microstructure translates into a specific mechanical response and allow improved control over biomaterial structure-function.
The software developed by the Cardiovascular Tissue Engineering group include: Blood Vessel Detection (BVD) Algorithm (quantification and spatial distribution of blood vessels in the explant sections), cell growth and morphology characterization and quantification, collagen-rich areas quantification, explant morphology and microstructure characterization. Her skills include: numerical simulations (ABAQUS, FLUENT), programming (Matlab, Python), mechanical testing (uniaxial test, biaxial test), image analysis and processing (Scanning Electron Microscopy, confocal microscopy, multiphoton microscopy MP, optical microscopy, Matlab, Python).
